Comparison of the Lipotropic Effects of Choline, Inositol, and Lipocaic in Rats

چکیده
In a preliminary communication (1) we reported that inositol would prevent the development !of that type of fatty liver, characterized by a high content of cholesterol, which is produced in rats by the administration of biotin. The lipotropic a,ction of inositol has been studied with other types of fatty livers and has been compared with the effects of two other lipotropic agents, choline and lipocaic.

Effects of Lipotropic Products on Productive Performance, Liver Lipid and Enzymes Activity in Broiler Chickens
In a 42-d experiment, 576 one-day-old Vencobb 308 broiler chicks were used to investigate the effects of lecithin extract (0.5 g/kg), choline chloride 60% (1 g/kg) and Bio choline (1 g/kg) in diets of moderate and high energy in a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement on performance and certain physiological traits in broiler chickens. The inclusion of Bio choline and lecithin extract in the diet signifi...
متن کاملLipotropic factors and the fatty liver produced by feeding cholesterol.
The excessive deposition of liver lipids which is produced in rats by feeding diets containing cholesterol is inhibited by choline and betaine (Best & Ridout, 1933; Best, Channon & Ridout, 1934). Choline was shown to affect both glycerides and cholesteryl esters but deposition of the former was inhibited more than that of the latter. .Many preventive and curative experiments were subsequently r...
متن کاملThe Effect of Dietary Fat on the Lipotropic Action of Inositol
The possibility that choline exerts lipotropic action through its introduction into newly formed lecithin molecules is an attractive hypothesis for which there exists some supporting evidence (l-3). Inositol, which is also a constituent of phospholipid (4, 5), may possibly exert its effect in the same way. McHenry and Patterson (6) have already suggested this possibility. If these two substance...
متن کاملFurther observations on the lipotropic need for inositol.
Inositol was originally shown to be a lipotropic agent in rats maintained under special conditions (1) ; the animals were depleted of fat and of B vitamins by maintenance for 3 weeks on a fat-free, high carbohydrate diet, and during a subsequent week fat synthesis was promoted by a supplement of B vitamins and a beef liver fraction. Under these conditions the rats developed markedly fatty liver...
متن کاملEffect of choline and inositol on plasma and tissue lipids and atherosclerosis in the cholesterol-fed chick.
T HE DISCOVERY of the lipotropic action of choline, inositol and other substances1-led several workers to postulate their utility in the prophylaxis and therapy of both experimental and clinical atherosclerosis. It was reasoned that these factors might influence the deposition of lipids in the vascular wall, as well as in the liver. It was also suggested that they might affect the concentration...
